Gregg Allman of The Allman Brothers Band Dies at Age 69

Jul 25, 2017

Allman, lead singer of the Allman Brothers Band and an engineer of the Southern rock style that inspired the likes of Lynard Skynard and.38 Special, died Saturday at his home in Savannah, Ga, his website announced.

Allman finally passed away today (May 27) at his home in Savannah, Georgia.

Gregg Allman, the singer of a Southern rock band, became famous in Hollywood for his marriage to Cher in the 70s. “It was seven years of going, ‘What do I do?'” I will never, ever take that for granted.

“It is with heavy heart [s] that we say farewell to Gregg Allman, the man, and perhaps we embrace his music even more tightly than we did before”, Starr tells Rolling Stone Country.

He was one of the founding members of the Allman Brothers Band, along with his brother, Duane Allman.

The extent of the band’s influence is beyond measure.

Gregg Allman, founder of The Allman Brothers Band, has died aged 69.

Allman’s long blond hair and cool demeanor belied a musical career and personal life that was rife with tragedy, drama and addiction.

“It was nice, round, kind of dull-ended instead of sharp”, Allman wrote of the Hammond B-3 sound, “and I thought it blended with guitar just ideal.” .

Together they released a widely panned duets album under the name “Allman and Woman”.

“I want to thank you for all the love that you are sending”, he shared in a statement.

“When I was a kid, I didn’t listen to Tommy Dorsey”, he continued. He underwent a liver transplant in 2010 and was forced to cancel several concerts in 2011 and 2016.

“Nobody ever made me feel as happy as Gregory did”.

Of course, it wasn’t all smooth-sailing.

“Now that the chemical thing is gone, it makes each day a little more precious”, he told me. “I wouldn’t eat or sleep or drink or anything”. Now I can talk to my brother in the morning, and he answers me at night. It’s like two clicks from a damn insult and he knew it when he said it.

Many of their songs were marked by Allman’s soulful, weathered voice, which even in his early recordings, said Sheryl Crow, “sounded like he’d already lived a thousand lifetimes”. “But she’s forgiven him everything”, the source said.

Allman was a onetime Tampa Bay-area resident, living in Anna Maria Island for about six years. That’s one of those little details that you can’t make up, but it’s ideal. “They’re similar songs but we try to play the songs different every time“. Lehman said Allman was very enthusiastic about the project and was listening to tracks from the album just last night.

“They’re great because that’s when you’re learning and you’re also putting it out and its coming together and all that good spontaneity is kick-ass man”.

Some of the band’s hits are “Midnight Rider”, 1974, “Crazy Love”, 1979, and “I’m No Angel“, 1987. From the time he rose to fame, the lanky, flaxen-haired singer was one of rock “n” roll’s premiere male pinups, and he played the part to perfection, drinking, drugging and carousing with abandon.

Gregg Allman had one of the most recognizable voices of his generation. I caught a 180-lb. tarpon a few weeks ago. What’s the one song, if you miss any other, what you have to – what do you have to hear?

“The family will release a statement soon, but for now ask for privacy during this very hard time“, the statement on his website advised.
