3 overall seed for the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision playoffs and will host a second-round game at 2:30 p.m. December 5 against the victor of Saturday’s first-round game featuring South Dakota State (8-3) at Montana (7-4).

The only that might rival it: Montana’s 52-48 thriller back in 1993 when UM scored an FCS-record 39 fourth-quarter points at home.

The FCS playoffs begin with eight first-round games on Saturday and lead up to the national championship game on January 9 in Frisco, Texas. Montana is 0-1 in Fargo with a 22-10 loss last season.

The back to back Ohio Valley Conference champions are returning to the playoffs for the third straight year.

IL State received the number two seed. “Me growing up in the Midwest, I’ve known a lot about the Jackrabbits”, said Stitt, a Nebraska native.

South Dakota State is 2-2 against Big Sky Conference teams in its postseason history, enjoying a win over Northern Arizona in 2013’s first round before falling to Eastern Washington a week later.

The Jackrabbits of SDSU finished the season 8-3 with a notable comeback win against South Dakota and a blowout win against Big Sky champion, Southern Utah. “The Griz are led by 6’7” quarterback Brady Gustafson.

North Dakota State lost 38-35 at Montana in the season opener.

The Missouri Valley earns five playoff spots but all five are on the same side of the bracket, effectively removing the chance for another all MVFC title game.

They also have a shot at as many as three home playoff games, including a potential semifinal clash with North Dakota State.
