John Kasich Faces the Flipside of Media Attention

Feb 28, 2016

“You know I just finished my second demolition derby”.

When he was convicted August 21, 2015, of unlawful compensation of a public official, he said he would give what was left from his fund to charities. “But in the era of the 24 news cycle, I am just not going to go out there and do something to just grab attention”. The Times also reported that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., described Kasich’s self-proclaimed path to the GOP presidential nomination as “irrational”.

Late Thursday night, at the conclusion of the debate, Kasich’s campaign put out a memo from campaign manager Beth Hansen making the argument that Kasich is the only candidate who can (A) stop Trump from being the nominee and (B) be a lock to win the key swing state of OH in the general election.

Trump was asked on CNN’s “State of the Union” whether he would declare that he didn’t want Duke’s support, or that of other white supremacists in the presidential election.

The US state of Tennessee has been a traditional Republican State. Cruz is leading polls in his home state of Texas, where Republicans vote in a primary March 1.

Trump suggested on Saturday that Rubio only reimbursed the funds after he was caught.

“We’re going to campaign hard in MI, we understand the state economically, we understand the people of MI – what they’ve gone through, what they’re going through, what their fears and concerns are”, said Weaver, who worked on Gov. Rick Snyder’s 2010 campaign. Kasich and other candidates often face questions from voters and reporters about what would happen if Trump won a plurality of delegates but not enough to clinch the nomination at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio, in July.

The Ohio governor reportedly said Kasich said he is not anxious about having to share voters with Florida Sen.

Crosstalk: There were times – lots of times – when two, three or even four candidates were trying to speak at the same time. Now that there’s only five candidates, he’s only getting 7 percent to 12 percent support.

Kasich’s visit comes two days before the MA presidential primary on Super Tuesday.

Mr. Strickland and Mr. Sittenfeld will square off in the March 15 Democratic primary.

Gov. John Kasich, left, and GOP front runner Donald Trump, right.

He pointed to Kasich’s work as governor and as Budget Committee chairman in the U.S. House of Representatives during the 1990s as evidence of a strong track record on fiscal issues.

Kasich said, “No. I think Trump’s probably going to win probably all of them”.

“Donald Trump is, I think, tapping into an energy that is bringing more people out to vote”, said Rep. Jeff Denham, whose northern California district went for President Barack Obama twice.

And Kasich had the best favorability among likely Republican primary voters in his home state. Both men felt entirely ancillary to the proceedings – as though they were engaged in a different event than Trump, Rubio and Cruz were participating in.

On security matters, Kasich called for a more aggressive strategy targeting the Islamic State and opposed President Barack Obama’s plan to close the military prison at Guantanamo Bay.
