Leicester City are expected to receive £66m in prize money following their run to the quarterfinals, while Manchester City banked £75.8m last season after making it to the semifinals for the first time in the club’s history. “But today I tried to win”.

Arsenal fans taunted Mourinho in the latter stages of their victory, which puts the Gunners six points behind Manchester City, with one game in hand, and seven back on Liverpool having played two games fewer than the Reds.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has not gambled with the club’s season by prioritising Europa League success over a top-four finish in the Premier League, he said on Wednesday.

Manchester United legend Roy Keane has slammed the side’s performance under Jose Mourinho this season, claiming he should be “embarrassed” by the club’s place in the league.

“But once we get on that pitch, it’s business”, he stressed. “When you score you’ve got to be happy, haven’t you?”.

“I tell them we really need them to create a good atmosphere, a hard atmosphere for the opponents, who can push us to be in the final”. I didn’t sign (a contract) here for five years [to not improve].

“We always have hope – hope dies last”, the Swiss midfielder offered. “Of course you want to play, you want to play every game”, he said.

United now only have four first-team players out injured, but Mourinho said he had no choice to give up on the Premier League.

Before Celta Vigo’s visit to Old Trafford for the semi-final second leg on Thursday, Mourinho said his decision to rest key players in the league was a result of those circumstances.

United may not be out of the top four race by the numbers, but Mourinho is a man whose only focus is now on the Europa League. “We need everybody. We have such a small squad in this moment and these guys have a fantastic answer”, he added. “We still have a chance mathematically and we need some help as well from teams around us”.

“That is what we’re going to try to do in the remaining three matches in the Premier League but, obviously, everything for next Thursday”.

It was important because we lost at Tottenham – that didn’t happen many times. That, together with their current travails in front of goal means that we expect Utd to continue their excellent defensive at home in this competition and ease through to the final.
