“I have no excuses for my very poor decision, and I’m embarrassed about it”, Boykin wrote.

Boykin posted an apology on his Twitter account Thursday night.

The 11th-ranked Horned Frogs are in Texas to play No. 15 OR in the Alamo Bowl on Saturday. Boykin said he wished he could play, “but I won’t because of my mistake that I have no one to blame but myself”.

Earlier in the day, the team suspended Boykin and sent him home from San Antonio. He did not answer questions from reporters.

Now TCU head coach Gary Patterson will likely turn to senior Bram Kohlhausen, freshman Foster Sawyer, or even both, under center.

At a Thursday morning news conference, San Antonio Police Chief William McManus confirmed reports that TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin, 22, and some teammates were in an establishment named Pat O’Brien’s just before 2 a.m. when some patrons recognized the quarterback and began to trash-talk. “In any event, the officer was struck in the face and suffered injuries”. The Horned Frogs subsequently banned him from Saturday’s bowl game, per ESPN.com’s Mark Schlabach.

Boykin was charged with felony assault of a police officer.

Boykin’s behavior headlines a group of football players who have faced disciplinary action during college football’s busiest bowl week.

Wide receiver Preston Miller was also suspended.

The Ducks were at first 1-point underdogs to TCU on Thursday, but once word of Boykin’s arrest spread to Las Vegas books the odds flipped in the Pac-12 power’s favor.

“We don’t know whether he was swinging at the officer or whether he was swinging at somebody behind him”, McManus said.

TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin has been charged with felony assault of a police officer. The official report of the incident by San Antonio police says that Boykin was extremely aggressive and had to be held back by teammates.

Police said Boykin hit an employee as the fight moved out of the bar. He came back. He was finally subdued after being threated with a (stun gun).

The senior is one of the top players in the country, having finished in the top 10 in the Heisman Trophy voting each of the past two seasons.
